A little about me: I live in Wellington, Aotearoa/New Zealand with my partner and two cats. I write fiction (and non-fiction on occasion), which has recently started to be published in various (web)zines - see the writing page for details. I'm also currently writing one novel ('Battle of the Dead') and editing a second. What I write isn't easily pigeonholed, but can include elements of fantasy, science fiction, steampunk, literary and mainstream fiction and on occasion horror. I often include queer themes in my writing (and am sad that that needs to be a point and not just expected), and am very enthusiastic about the work the fledgling Outer Alliance is doing to support queer speculative fiction.
I'm involved in a number of writing activities, both locally and online. I'm a member of two face-to-face critique groups, a staff member at Kiwi Writers, a Core member of SpecFicNZ, (a NZ Speculative Fiction writers organisation, due to launch in 2010), a committee member for Au Contraire, review for the e-fiction book club and from time to time do various work for Random Static Press, from proofreading to procuring ginger beer. Sometimes I fit in my day job, political activism, socialising, crafts and (rarely) sleeping.
Why 'pterodaustro dreams'? Mainly because pterodaustro are neat (no, seriously, they are) and I wasn't quite sure what name I'd be writing under when I set up this site, so I didn't want to use that. Yes, I probably should have stuck with something shorter, but people call me 'ptero' on occasion, and that seems to work just fine. Though I do think it encapsulates a lot which is important to me in my writing; what has been but has largely been forgotten, and what we imagine will be.
