Twenty years ago, nineteen year old Veronica Sales, on the run from something she could make no sense of, climbed out of a van in the tiny village of Eaderton, bought a sandwich and a soft drink, then vanished. Though no body was found, suspicion inevitably fell on members of the religious sect living nearby.
In the infighting that followed, the only world fourteen year old Corinne had ever known was blown apart. The talents which had once guaranteed her status were now considered a liability, and learning to survive in the city meant letting go of the truth about her life.
Now in her thirties and a mother herself, Corinne has returned to Eaderton in the hope of finding a solution to the increasingly bizarre behaviour plaguing her younger daughter. But she didn't expect to find Veronica...
